What is edsa 3?

EDSA 3, also called the May 1 riots, was a political protest that occurred on May 1, 2001, in Manila, Philippines. The protesters were mainly supporters of former President Joseph Estrada, who had been ousted from power in January 2001 due to allegations of corruption. The protests, which started as peaceful rallies, turned violent as protesters clashed with police.

During the protest, the protesters attempted to storm the presidential palace and occupy it. However, the police and military responded with force, using water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd. The protest eventually ended after several days, with dozens of people injured and arrested.

The EDSA 3 protest was controversial, with some accusing Estrada of inciting violence and attempting to stage a coup, while others argued that the government's response was excessive and violated the protesters' rights to peaceful assembly. It also highlighted the political divisions and tensions in the Philippines during that time.
